Acupuncture Treatment in Richmond Hill

What Is “Medical” Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. It aims to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points on the body.

Acupuncture is comprised of a series of procedures involving the stimulation of anatomical points on the body using a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique that has been most often studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or by electrical stimulation.

Does it hurt?

More often than not, the sensation that is felt from the insertion of an acupuncture needle into the skin can be related to that of a pinch. However, in some cases, a patient does not feel anything at all. Once the needles are in the acupuncture points, a patient may experience feelings of warmth, numbness, itchiness, or heaviness. Again, sometimes, a patient does not feel anything at all. All of this is normal. The needles are usually left in place for about 15 – 45 minutes.

What types of needles are used?

Chiro-Med Rehab Centre uses pre-sterilized, single-use, disposable acupuncture needles on our patients. After the needles have been removed, we dispose of them immediately and safely.

How long does an Acupuncture session take?

Once the needles are inserted into the acupuncture point, it may be there for 20 – 60 minutes. Treatment times vary for different individuals and symptoms.
