Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Seniors

Chiropractic care can do amazing things for a person's health.  Depending on which phase of life you're in, the benefits of chiropractic care can vary greatly.  If you're a senior, you might be surprised about some of the advantages to be obtained from regular visits to your chiropractor.

Pain Relief.  As you age, your joints can lose the cartilage and lubrication necessary to eliminate pain.  Prior injuries and medical issues can contribute to even further pain and discomfort.  When chiropractors realign the vertebral column, many of the abnormalities that create pain in the spine and surrounding soft tissue structures experience relief that often dismisses comfort throughout the central nervous system.

Increased Motion.  Limited movement may become regular as you start to experience stiffness in your joints in old age. You might be surprised to learn that many people experience an increase in motion in their extremities after chiropractic work, which reaches far beyond the spine itself.  You might find it easier to play with your grandkids or tend to your garden after you've been adjusted by a chiropractor.  The increase in motion that can be achieved with chiropractic care is far reaching.

Stabilized Balance & Coordination.  The cervical spine is responsible for housing joint receptors, which largely control balance and coordination.  Impairment in these receptors as people age is common; however such impairment often results in body positioning which is off-balance or uncoordinated.  One of the benefits of chiropractic care that tends to be particularly beneficial to the senior population is the stimulation of these joint receptors, which ultimately is believed to restore, or at least normalize, these parts of the body.  This can make it easier for patients to get up from seated positions, as well as correcting irregular gaits.  If you're experiencing problems with movement, balance, or coordination, you might be someone who could realize the benefits of chiropractic care.

Minimized Joint Degeneration.  As the body ages, spinal stress can cause degeneration, arthritis, and other painful problems.  A misalignment in the spine is often the root of the cause for such issues, as it can cause the backbone to wear out prematurely.  Regular realignments of the spine can cause this degeneration to cease or slow, removing the friction that is otherwise caused from a misaligned body.

Increased Quality of Life.  If you're like many people, you've developed pain so gradually over time that you may not even realize how bad it really is.  As you have adjusted to increased pain over the years, you've likely experienced a decrease in your quality of life, which has slipped by equally as unnoticed.  One of our favorite benefits of chiropractic care is the fact that you can increase your quality of life just by attending regular visits.  After just a few appointments, you'll likely find yourself with more energy, less pain, and the ability to sleep more comfortably throughout the night.  Discomfort that you've gotten so used to that you didn't even realize it was there will likely start to dissipate rapidly, leaving you able to do your everyday activities much more easily.

Reduced Chances of Falling.  Many seniors who experience falls do so because their balance, coordination, and overall mobility has been compromised.  Often, this can be helped by normalizing the joint receptors that are responsible for coordination.  When the cervical spine is aligned properly, seniors are at a significantly lower risk of enduring fall-related injuries.
